Our first Yakiniku in Japan

(Originally posed May 4 2020 - I've move this from my old site here so everything can be in one place )

Sometimes the best eats are the ones you randomly stumble upon..

It must have been on the 3rd night in Japan that we wanted to look for a yakiniku place to eat ate. Jackson told me back in Australia that he had never been to any asian bbq restaurant!! I couldn't believe my ears when he said that!! How can you never been to an asian bbq?? 😱 I mean, I am asian and he's a white boy, but still! I have many white friends that have had asian bbq, how could he not?

We went on google and try to find some restaurants but a lot Japanese restaurants aren't on google or doesn't show up because we were searching in english. So we did what any hungry person would do.. we went outside and walked around until we came across something we like. Our airbnb was located 10mins away from Ueno station so we decided to walk in that general direction to look for food, there were heaps of restaurants and shops there. We eventually got to a place called Nikunomachi Ueno 焼肉 肉の街 上野本店. It was small and cosy, and when we went in, it was quite busy. The menu was in Japanese, and since all my time spent studying the language didn't go to well, we had to go off the picture on the menu 😂 The waiter was nice and he understood what we wanted; meat and beers! In the end we got a meat plater with some extra orders of meat and an all you can drink beer package, which was really great! I end up drinking 5 beers I think.. Jackson had bit more but I was full and tipsy by the end of it.

I wish I took more photos of the food, we ordered quite a bit of meat so it came out slowly. I think this was one of my many favourite meals in Japan, it was fun showing Jackson this for the first time, he fell in love with it!! Jackson said this was the best and favourite meal he had on our holiday through, Japan, South Korea and Thailand.

A few nights later we end up going to another bbq place for dinner. We found this place called Yakiniku LIKE 焼肉ライク 上野店. I think it is a franchise, the quality wasn't the same as the previous place we went to but the food came out quickly and it still tastes good!

Unlike the other bbq place this one had an area for seperate bbqs for each individual person, if i was having dinner by myself the it would be good but I would have preferred a shared one because I was having dinner with Jackson and it would have been nice to sit face to face so we could talk. They also have individual tablets on the table so you can order from that, which was handy so you didn't need to speak to the waiter, you can just order your food on the tablet and then they take the food to your table. Overall it was a nice place to eat, I probably wont go again because I just need to try out other bbq places!!

Oh.. funny thing happened when we were paying our bill. The waiter ask Jackson if he was a movie star because he is good looking 😂I wish I got a compliment like that...😒

Anyways, have you guys ever been to a yakiniku restaurant or any asian bbq?

What is your favourite thing to order when you go?
